I strongly recommend prioritizing hotels near Line 2 (the loop line wrapping around the historic centre) or Line 1 (which runs east-west and stops right at Tiananmen Square). Although the place ends up being called hotdog stand, we will never know hahaha, but you can copy and paste that long name into Amap and the place will show up!  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gulou, The Northwest Hutongs<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gulou is ideal if you want to experience traditional <em>hutong<\/em> life paired with a fantastic array of specialty cafes, boutique shops, and local eateries. It\u2019s wonderfully walkable and seamlessly blends Beijing\u2019s ancient heritage with modern culture. Taking a stroll around the Shichahai Lakes is an absolute highlight.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Top Nearby Sights:<\/strong> The Drum and Bell Towers, Houhai Lake, and convenient access to the Summer Palace.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fav hotels in the area: If you plan to spend a lot of time at the hotel and you&#8217;re interested in that first-hand interaction with Chinese culture, check out what <a href=\"https:\/\/trip.tpo.lv\/ry4DiH4t\" title=\"\">Blossom House Prince Kung\u2019s Mansion<\/a> offers for 111 EUR a night. <a href=\"https:\/\/trip.tpo.lv\/diiq3PSU\" title=\"\">CitiGO Hotel<\/a> is mid-range in terms of price, but the hotel looks spectacular. <a href=\"https:\/\/trip.tpo.lv\/ywkFbjVW\" title=\"\">Perfect Nostalgia Inn<\/a> is more budget-friendly, but still with a private room and a window!!!<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Beixinqiao: <em>The Hidden Gem<\/em><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Situated right next to the iconic Lama Temple (Yonghe Temple), Beixinqiao is an outstanding alternative to Gulou if you\u2019re looking for an authentic, slightly more relaxed residential neighborhood. It is exceptionally well-connected via Metro Line 5 and packed with traditional restaurants operating at local prices.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When visiting the temple area, you&#8217;ll find vibrant streets filled with specialty cafes, young creatives, and photographers shooting against the iconic red walls. You can go get a coffee in <em>Huiyou Swim Cafe.<\/em>  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Top Nearby Sights:<\/strong> Lama Temple, Confucius Temple, Wudaoying Hutong.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Recommended hotels in Beixingqiao:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/trip.tpo.lv\/6cB0tRE0\" title=\"\">Youyou Light Luxury<\/a>, pretty, with a terrace, cheap, and with window options! It\u2019s ideal if you\u2019re travelling for work or if you just prefer the comfort and predictability of a modern, Western-style hotel with stunning panoramic views of the city.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ve probably come across videos showing off luxury second-hand shopping in Beijing. The main spot for that, the Friendship Store, is right here in Chaoyang. Basically, it\u2019s shopping heaven. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Favourite Stays:<\/strong> On the luxury side, the <a href=\"https:\/\/trip.tpo.lv\/jhWIOm5v\" title=\"\">Shangri-La<\/a> is unbelievable. It has a great gym, views, and really spacious rooms. If you\u2019re on a slightly tighter budget, <a href=\"https:\/\/trip.tpo.lv\/ZmY6TtJI\" title=\"\">Color and Light<\/a> is lovely and super well located.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wangfujing: <em>main &#8220;city center&#8221; in Beijing<\/em><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the ultimate commercial hub of the city, sitting just a short walk from the Forbidden City. It\u2019s super pedestrian friendly, clean, and really convenient if it\u2019s your first time in Beijing and you want a strategic base close to the main historic landmarks.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To be honest, to me it feels a bit generic and international. It\u2019s definitely handy, but maybe not the most authentic spot.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nearby Highlights:<\/strong> Wangfujing Pedestrian Street, Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Recommended Stays<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/trip.tpo.lv\/lCtahEqr\" title=\"\">UrCove by HYATT<\/a> has a stunning terrace, gorgeous rooms, and it\u2019s only around 80 EUROS! I kept reading everywhere that this was the &#8220;most international&#8221; neighbourhood, but to be fair, it didn&#8217;t really feel like that to me. In fact, I barely saw any tourists around. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nearby Highlights:<\/strong> Sanlitun Taikoo Li (an open-air shopping mall), the independent bar scene, and plenty of local bakeries and design studios.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Recommended Stays:<\/strong> I actually stayed in this area myself. I found a super cheap dorm bed around here and booked it without thinking too much about it. <a href=\"https:\/\/trip.tpo.lv\/pxiLXYq8\" title=\"\">It was this one<\/a>. It turned out to be a bit like a student residence\u2014or at least that&#8217;s how it felt, haha. Definitely local, but really clean and organized. However, with just a tiny bit of extra research, you can find breathtaking spots without the massive crowds, including unrestored sections. It\u2019s a super popular concept in China. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Basically, you pay an <strong>entry fee<\/strong> that gives you full access to <strong>saunas, thermal pools, lounge areas with massive recliners, games zones, books, and in most places, an unlimited fresh fruit and drinks bar.<\/strong> The bigger and more modern complexes even include ice cream, full food buffets, cinema rooms, and private pods to sleep in. On average, it costs around 20 EUR.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s an awesome option if you\u2019re landing in the early hours of the morning or if you&#8217;ve got a long overnight layover in Beijing and want something a bit different and way more relaxing than sitting around at the airport.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Frequently Asked Questions | Where to Stay in Beijing<\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How many days do you need in Beijing?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I recommend at least <strong>4 full days<\/strong>. Beijing has so much history and the internal travel times are no joke; anything less will feel like a total rush and you won&#8217;t get a chance to actually absorb it all. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do hotels in Beijing accept foreign guests?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keep an eye out for this! In China, by law, not all accommodations are allowed to host international guests. The good news is that platforms like <a href=\"https:\/\/trip.tpo.lv\/kaqyA3i8\" title=\"\"><em>Trip.com<\/em><\/a> list hotels that are already approved for foreigners. But if you&#8217;re booking through another site, double check with them beforehand so you don&#8217;t run into any issues at check-in.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is it worth booking a hotel with breakfast included?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In my opinion, no. Unless you&#8217;re staying at a big international chain, a traditional Chinese breakfast is very different from what you might be used to back home. Personally, I&#8217;m just not up for noodle soup, steamed <em>baozi<\/em>, or rice porridge with savoury toppings at 8:00 AM.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Plus, the main reason not to tie yourself to hotel breakfasts is that <strong>Beijing is packed with incredible specialty coffee shops<\/strong> <strong>and cute local spots<\/strong>. Heading out early to grab breakfast is the perfect excuse to start exploring the neighbourhood right away. <\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Continuing Your Trip Around China?<\/h4>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beijing was actually my very first stop in China. What started as a quick layover turned into a 7-day trip around the North East. I was terrified at first, honestly.
